Do dog relaxation CD’s work?

We have recently adopted a dog from a rescue centre – a border collie called Rex. He is 12 years old and gorgeous. When we went to pick him up to bring him home we found that his previous owners had left a heartbreaking message saying how much they loved him and regretted having to give him up.

They also said that he was afraid of microwaves and ovens and the behaviourist said he was suffering from separation anxiety. Having already fallen in love with him and committed to adopting him we decided to give it a go, even though we were fearful of disturbing the neighbours with his barking, so we took him home thinking we would work this out when we got there.

I am a hypnotherapist and whilst looking on the internet for strategies to use with Rex I came across dog relaxation cd’s some of which had been endorsed by well known vets.

Whilst exploring these cd’s I realised that the elements I used for producing my own cd’s, in particular, relaxation music with binaural beats were being used with succesful results for animals, not just dogs too! Never thought of that at all.

Great – no need to buy anything just use one of my own. The relaxation one I think Researching the effects, I found out that:

Dr. Akira Komatsu (of the prestigious Japan School of Music Therapy) says, of one of the dog relaxation CD’s that: ”This CD with it’s gentle use of traditional acoustic instruments and some special pet-friendly frequencies introduced, used the psychology of music to encourage calmness and a sense of relaxation in your pet”.

They have also been endorsed by the TV vet, Trudie Mostue.

Anyway, I believe strongly in the power of hypnotherapy with humans and have achieved fantastic results when working with people using hypnotherapy. This, combined with the amazing powerful effects of binaural beats and the relaxing calm music, may be the answer to Rex’s separation anxiety and his fear of ovens and microwaves. Plus of course it may stop us being labelled as the neighbours from hell!
